The themes portrayed in the TINA: The Tina Turner Musical show can be triggering and distressing. Below is a pool of resources to support you, inclusive of culturally responsive options.
Nguvu Moja provides opportunities for young people of African backgrounds to get involved in theatre and performance. Their theatre development projects connect an ensemble of young people with professional African Australian performers. The young people gain first-hand knowledge, practice performance techniques and discuss experiences of discrimination and other barriers in the creative industry in Australia.
Pola Practice provides culturally responsive and intersectional therapy sessions for individuals, couples/dyads and families. Their approach is deeply rooted in Culturally Responsive and Intersectional Practice (CRIP), an intersectional worldview that acknowledges that social-political factors have an outsized (and usually ignored) impact on mental health and well-being outcomes.
Project Sunrise is an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Initiative funded by the Victorian African Communities Action Plan (VACAP). Led by the African Australian Welfare Bureau (AAWB), together with Odyssey House Victoria (OHV), Positive Mental Health Program (PMHP), and the Youth Support and Advocacy Service (YSAS), the project will deliver Alcohol and Other Drugs outreach and education, with the aim of improving health and wellbeing outcomes for young African people in Victoria, in line with the aims of VACAP.
NAS Recovery Centre offer culturally and trauma-informed Alcohol and Other Drugs + Mental Health programs, linking individuals to essential services for a holistic healing experience. They deliver collaborative and culturally determined substance use and related mental health issues support to youth, adults and families from African backgrounds.
